E-Bike Range Estimator
This calculator estimates e-bike range from battery energy and average consumption. It is most useful for scenario comparisons because actual energy use varies with rider, route, weather and assist level.
How to use this calculator
- Estimate consumption from similar trips and use usable capacity rather than relying only on the nameplate rating.
- Check that the input values use the same units and reporting period before comparing scenarios.
- Change one assumption at a time to see which input drives the result.
Formula and method
Trip energy = battery capacity × usable share × (1 − reserve share); range = trip energy / Wh per kilometre.
- 720 × 0.90 × 0.85 ÷ 12 = 45.9 km.
- Wind, temperature, elevation, tyre pressure, rider mass, speed and battery age can greatly change range. Keep a practical safety reserve.
Worked examples
Worked example
A 720 Wh battery with 90% usable share, 15% reserve and 12 Wh/km consumption.
720 × 0.90 × 0.85 ÷ 12 = 45.9 km.
The estimated range is about 45.9 km with the stated assumptions.
Understanding the result
The estimated range is about 45.9 km with the stated assumptions.
Wind, temperature, elevation, tyre pressure, rider mass, speed and battery age can greatly change range. Keep a practical safety reserve.
Important notes
Estimate consumption from similar trips and use usable capacity rather than relying only on the nameplate rating.
The displayed result uses the entered assumptions; validate important estimates against source measurements, specifications or qualified guidance.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the manufacturer’s range?
No. It is a calculation using your assumptions and cannot reproduce a specific test cycle.
Why include a reserve?
To avoid planning a trip that depends on fully draining the battery; choose a reserve appropriate to the route.
