Concrete Bag Estimator

The Concrete Bag Estimator calculates the geometric volume of a slab and translates it to bag count using the yield stated on the chosen product. It keeps the package yield explicit because bags with different mix sizes cover different volumes.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter slab length, width and average depth in metres, the manufacturer's yield per bag in litres, and a waste allowance.
  2. Review the worked small slab and compare its arithmetic with the inputs you plan to use.
  3. Change one input at a time when exploring a different scenario, and keep units and assumptions consistent.

Slab volume and bag count

Volume (m³) = length × width × depth; litres = volume × 1,000; bag count = ceiling(litres ÷ yield per bag × (1 + waste fraction)).

  • The bag count depends on the manufacturer's yield; bag mass alone does not determine the volume without the product's stated coverage.
  • The page's numerical output is calculated from the values entered; it does not independently verify whether those inputs fit the real-world situation.

Worked examples

Small slab

A slab is 2 m long, 1.5 m wide, and 0.1 m deep; bag yield is 10 L, with 10% allowance.

Volume = 0.3 m³ = 300 L; bags = ceiling(300 ÷ 10 × 1.10) = 33

Estimate 33 bags using the stated yield and allowance.

Understanding the result

Depth has a direct effect on volume, so small depth errors can materially affect material quantity.

Compaction, uneven ground, spillage, delivery minimums, and structural design requirements are not accounted for by the basic geometry.

Important notes

Check the actual product data sheet and seek qualified guidance for structural concrete or safety-critical work.

Displayed values may be rounded for readability. Keep appropriate precision for intermediate calculations and check the unit labels before using the result.
