Overtime Pay Calculator
The Overtime Pay Calculator estimates gross regular pay and overtime pay from an hourly rate, regular hours, overtime hours, and an overtime multiplier. It separates the regular and premium portions to make a pay estimate easier to review.
How to use this calculator
- Enter your normal hourly pay rate.
- Enter regular hours and overtime hours for the pay period.
- Enter the overtime multiplier that applies to your situation.
- Review regular pay, overtime pay, and total gross pay before deductions.
Overtime pay formula
Regular pay = hourly rate × regular hours; overtime pay = hourly rate × overtime hours × overtime multiplier; gross total = regular pay + overtime pay.
- The multiplier is commonly set to 1.5 for time-and-a-half examples, but the applicable rule depends on a contract and jurisdiction.
- The calculation is a gross estimate and does not include taxes or deductions.
Worked examples
Time-and-a-half
At €20 per hour, 40 regular hours and 5 overtime hours are entered with a 1.5 multiplier.
Regular: €20 × 40 = €800; overtime: €20 × 5 × 1.5 = €150.
Estimated gross pay is €950.
Understanding the result
Overtime eligibility and premiums are not identical in every country or employment agreement.
A gross estimate should not be mistaken for take-home pay.
Important notes
Use your applicable overtime multiplier and qualifying hours.
Check local labour rules or payroll details for special premiums, caps, holidays, or exemptions.
