Fuel Cost Calculator
The Fuel Cost Calculator estimates the fuel budget for a trip from distance, fuel consumption or efficiency, and the price per litre or gallon. It is helpful for comparing routes or splitting a trip budget across passengers.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the planned distance, the vehicle's consumption or efficiency, and the local pump price using matching units.
- Review the worked a 300 km trip and compare its arithmetic with the inputs you plan to use.
- Change one input at a time when exploring a different scenario, and keep units and assumptions consistent.
Trip fuel cost
Fuel used = distance × consumption per distance; trip cost = fuel used × price per unit. For L/100 km, litres used = distance in km × L/100 km ÷ 100.
- A distance and consumption figure must use compatible units. The result estimates fuel only and does not include tolls, parking, maintenance, or charging stops.
- The page's numerical output is calculated from the values entered; it does not independently verify whether those inputs fit the real-world situation.
Worked examples
A 300 km trip
At 6.5 L/100 km and €1.80 per litre, a 300 km drive uses an estimated 19.5 litres.
300 × 6.5 ÷ 100 = 19.5 L; 19.5 × €1.80 = €35.10
Estimated fuel cost is €35.10.
Understanding the result
Using observed consumption rather than a vehicle brochure figure can make a trip budget more realistic.
Traffic, weather, load, driving style, elevation, and fuel-price changes affect the actual total.
Important notes
Keep kilometres with L/100 km or convert inputs before mixing metric and imperial units.
Displayed values may be rounded for readability. Keep appropriate precision for intermediate calculations and check the unit labels before using the result.
