Rent Split Calculator

The Rent Split Calculator divides rent plus shared household utilities across up to four housemates. Weights let you use an equal split or assign different proportional shares agreed by the household.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the total rent for the month.
  2. Enter shared utilities or other costs to include.
  3. Set each housemate’s share weight; use equal values for an equal split.
  4. Set a person’s weight to zero to exclude an unused slot and review each calculated share.

Weighted rent split formula

Person share = total shared cost × person weight ÷ sum of all person weights.

  • Equal weights result in an equal split.
  • A weight of 2 receives twice the share of a person whose weight is 1.
  • The weights are a household choice, not an assessment of what is legally or contractually owed.

Worked examples

Equal split

€1,500 rent plus €150 utilities is shared by three housemates with equal weights.

€1,650 ÷ 3 = €550 per person.

Each housemate’s estimated share is €550.

Understanding the result

Changing weights changes each person’s proportion while keeping the total shares equal to the total cost.

The calculation does not decide fairness for different room sizes, leases, or individual utility use.

Important notes

Enter non-negative weights and at least one positive weight.

Agree on the weighting method with the household before relying on the result.
