Sales Tax Calculator
The Sales Tax Calculator estimates tax and the final price from a pre-tax amount and a tax rate. It can also be used to separate the tax component from a price that already includes tax when the correct mode is selected.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the price and the applicable tax percentage, then confirm whether the price is tax-exclusive or tax-inclusive.
- Review the worked tax on €80 and compare its arithmetic with the inputs you plan to use.
- Change one input at a time when exploring a different scenario, and keep units and assumptions consistent.
Tax-exclusive price formula
Tax = net price × rate ÷ 100; gross price = net price + tax. For a tax-inclusive price, net price = gross price ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100).
- A percentage is applied to the relevant taxable base. Real invoices may include exempt items, multiple rates, rounding rules, or jurisdiction-specific treatment.
- The page's numerical output is calculated from the values entered; it does not independently verify whether those inputs fit the real-world situation.
Worked examples
Tax on €80
If an item costs €80 before tax and the rate is 21%, the tax is 21% of €80.
€80 × 0.21 = €16.80; gross = €96.80
Tax is €16.80 and the final price is €96.80.
Understanding the result
