Fuel Efficiency Calculator
The Fuel Efficiency Calculator measures a vehicle’s fuel consumption from distance travelled and fuel used. It reports litres per 100 kilometres and kilometres per litre, with an optional trip fuel-cost estimate.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the distance driven in kilometres.
- Enter the fuel consumed in litres over that distance.
- Optionally enter the fuel price per litre.
- Compare consumption figures from similar journeys or driving conditions.
Fuel efficiency formulas
Litres per 100 km = litres used ÷ kilometres driven × 100; kilometres per litre = kilometres driven ÷ litres used.
- A lower litres-per-100-km value indicates less fuel consumed per distance under comparable conditions.
- The trip fuel cost is estimated by multiplying litres consumed by price per litre.
Worked examples
Trip consumption
A vehicle travels 500 km using 35 litres.
35 ÷ 500 × 100 = 7 L/100 km.
Average fuel consumption is 7 litres per 100 kilometres.
Understanding the result
Fuel consumption changes with driving style, weather, traffic, load, and vehicle maintenance.
Use comparable routes and conditions for a fair comparison.
Important notes
Use actual fuel used over the distance, not tank capacity.
This calculator uses metric distance and fuel units.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good L/100 km result?
It depends on vehicle type, size, engine, terrain, and driving conditions; compare like-for-like vehicles and journeys.
How do I get km/L?
Divide the distance travelled in kilometres by litres consumed.
