Insulation Estimator

Estimate insulation volume and pack count from the area, installed thickness and manufacturer coverage.

How to use this calculator

  1. Use the package coverage listed for the exact material and thickness, then set a realistic cutting allowance.
  2. Check the labels and units before using a result outside this page.
  3. Change one input at a time if you want to compare scenarios.

Formula and method

Volume = area × thickness; packs = ceiling(area × (1 + waste allowance) ÷ coverage per pack)

  • Volume = area × thickness; packs = ceiling(area × (1 + waste allowance) ÷ coverage per pack)
  • Coverage is product-specific. This calculator does not determine the required thermal rating, moisture control or fire performance.

Worked examples

Worked example

Cover 40 m² with 10 cm insulation; a pack covers 5 m² at that thickness, with 5% allowance.

Area with allowance is 42 m², so 42/5 requires 9 packs.

Area with allowance is 42 m², so 42/5 requires 9 packs.

Understanding the result
