Macro Calculator
The Macro Calculator divides a chosen daily energy total into grams of protein, carbohydrate, and fat using the percentages selected by the user. It helps translate a calorie allocation into food-planning quantities, but it does not prescribe a diet.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the daily calorie target and choose or enter macro percentages that add to 100%.
- Review the worked a 2,000 kcal split and compare its arithmetic with the inputs you plan to use.
- Change one input at a time when exploring a different scenario, and keep units and assumptions consistent.
Calories to grams
Protein grams = protein calories ÷ 4; carbohydrate grams = carbohydrate calories ÷ 4; fat grams = fat calories ÷ 9.
- The energy factors are commonly used approximations. Label rounding, alcohol, fibre treatment, and food-specific energy values can make label totals differ slightly.
- The page's numerical output is calculated from the values entered; it does not independently verify whether those inputs fit the real-world situation.
Worked examples
A 2,000 kcal split
A 30% protein, 40% carbohydrate, and 30% fat allocation can be converted into grams.
600÷4 = 150 g protein; 800÷4 = 200 g carbohydrate; 600÷9 ≈ 66.7 g fat
The approximate target is 150 g protein, 200 g carbohydrate, and 66.7 g fat.
Understanding the result
Percentages must be applied to calories before converting to grams because the macronutrients use different energy factors.
Individual nutrition needs vary with health, activity, age, and goals; this calculator does not assess adequacy.
Important notes
Make sure entered percentages total 100% and consult a qualified professional for individualized nutrition planning.
Displayed values may be rounded for readability. Keep appropriate precision for intermediate calculations and check the unit labels before using the result.
